POUGHQUAG -- Around 60 volunteers showed up despite the wind and wet weather Nov. 15, to help rebuild the home of Angel and Shelly LaLuz and their five children. The project was sponsored by Rebuilding Together, a national nonprofit organization that relies on volunteers to make renovations to homes of families who really need the help.

Yardley, Pa. - Journal Register Company noted that "Editor & Publisher" magazine's online edition erroneously reported that "The New Haven Register" and "The Macomb Daily" were part of the planned sale of publications by the company.

PLEASANT VALLEY - The town kicked off its board meeting Nov. 12 with continuation of its public hearing on the 2009 budget. An 8% tax increase is expected for residents.

BEEKMAN - A public hearing for a new historical preservation ordinance brought owners of historic homes to town hall Nov. 17. The ordinance, which would bring Beekman one step closer to becoming a Certified Local Government, opens access to grants - the value of which was heavily debated at the hearing.

LAGRANGE - a big school with a big population needs a musical with a big cast, and an audience of epic proportions. Naturally, Arlington High School's Admiral Players got just that for their production of "Footloose", which ran Nov. 14, 15 and 16 at the school, selling out every performance.

PLEASANT VALLEY - On Dec. 9, residents will vote on a new fire commissioner as well as a proposition to increase the Benefit Service Award Program for active volunteers of the department.
